- Bruce competed for the first time in the Eddie Aikau Waimea Bay having surfed there maybe once before. That same week he needed to make it to the final of the Pipeline Masters in order to re-qualify for the WCT. With all that pressure, Bruce won the Eddie, made the final of the Masters, and re-qualified.
